I've worked for two startups as an FTE and lasted 13 months and eight months respectively.
Compare that to my job in 'legacy' newsrooms: 3 years, 5 years, 3.5 years.
I don't think - as one former colleague sadonically suggested - that the problem is me (although I have - and do - describe myself as 'an outdoor cat').
Retention has been a problem at startups since the year dot. While the industry might have a reputation for free lunches, flashy off-sites, and equity packages, it also has one for engineers sleeping in tents and 9-9-6 work schedules.
How big a problem is this in tech? And will it change?
