What do these stir up in you?
-Lived experience based knowledge of the world and how it operates ( especially nature and the human experience).
-Mental focus and the ability to analyze, discern the most important aspects – knowing what to use and what to discard and move past
-Knowing when to follow the rules (and knowing when the rules no longer apply).
-Mediating and refereeing between competing and conflicting demands, emotions and reason
-Osscilating between commercial interest, broader social interest and future losses and gains
-A systems mindset, integrative thinking, inclusive behaviors and a strong moral compass and sense of justice
-A strange and sometimes contradictory sense of service and commitment to welfare and the ability to disassociate from impulse, delay action and immediate gratification in order the achieve the greatest amount of good for the greatest amount of people
-The ability to exercise judgment, influence and forge collaboration in the absence of perfect data...getting teams and organizations committed to meaningful action and doing the right thing.
If any of these sound familiar or resonate, then the chances are you’re a sustainability or non profit executive, a social impact / CSR leader and / or a social entrepreneur.
It might also surprise you to know that these qualities and behaviors are also regarded as the core foundational principles of wisdom. (I don’t think it’s any coincidence that those drawn to the former career paths have spent their lives in pursuit).
If any of this sounds, feels, smells, and walks like you, then I’d love to invite you to be a guest on #Itshoudntbethishard - the video podcast that dives deep into the messy, meaningful work of responsible business and conscious leadership.
Our guests often share their own insights and experiences about power, profit, fear, failure, purpose, and the many barriers and obstacles that often frustrate conscious leadership, sustainability and more equitable progress.
