Technology Leaders Educators Students - Percent of Role AI Could Do

🚨 AI WILL LIKELY RENDER WHAT I DO - AND WHAT YOU ASPIRE TO DO - OBSOLETE. That sounds uncomfortable. It is supposed to. But I am not predicting that software engineers, accountants, marketers, researchers, cybersecurity professionals or engineers will simply disappear. I am arguing something more important: 👉 A significant portion of what these professionals do today is becoming automatable. And that could fundamentally rewrite the career ladder. For decades, professional progression broadly looked like: Learn → Execute → Gain Experience → Manage → Lead In the AI era, I believe it may increasingly become: Learn → AI-Augment → Automate → Integrate → Architect → Govern → Lead Why? Because when AI can write routine code, analyze datasets, prepare reports, generate content, summarize research, perform reconciliations and automate increasingly complex workflows, execution alone becomes less differentiated. The economic premium starts moving upward. 💡 From coding → architecture 💡 From reporting → interpretation 💡 From content creation → insight 💡 From manual analysis → decision intelligence 💡 From operating processes → automating processes 💡 From using AI → orchestrating AI 💡 From technology execution → governance and leadership This has profound implications for professionals - and an even bigger implication for education. I don't believe we should tell the next generation: ❌ Don't become an engineer. ❌ Don't become an accountant. ❌ Don't become a marketer. ❌ Don't become a cybersecurity professional. Instead, we should tell them: ✅ Become an engineer who understands AI. ✅ Become an accountant who can leverage AI. ✅ Become a cybersecurity professional who can secure and govern AI. ✅ Become a marketer who combines AI-scale experimentation with human insight. ✅ Become a leader capable of managing humans AND intelligent machines. And education needs to evolve accordingly.
