UAE Students & Career Counsellors - AI Impact on Degree Choices

A decade ago, a computer science degree and coding skills were seen as one of the safest bets for a career in tech. Today, AI is forcing students to question whether that safety still exists. A US survey, reported by Morning Brew, found that 13% of bachelor’s degree students and 19% of associate degree students had changed their major or field of study because of AI. So, are students no longer choosing degrees based only on what they want to study, but also on what they believe AI won’t replace? That’s the question I’m looking at from a UAE perspective. I’m looking to speak to final-year high school students, university students, UAE-based universities and career counsellors to understand how AI is influencing the degrees and careers young people are considering from avoiding fields they fear could be replaced to choosing more “AI-proof” or AI-focused skills.
