UK Business Executives - Youth Jobs Debate NICs Cut vs Jobs Guarantee

A hot button issue for business that I want to hear more from execs about: Trade unions and businesses have set out opposing views of how to fix the UK’s lack of youth jobs, as the issue becomes a key battleground in the run-up to October’s Budget. Unions want an extension of the jobs guarantee scheme to get Neets back into work. Business highlights the government’s hike on employment costs has made it harder to hire young people and so BRC and CBI want a partial reversal of last year’s Budget and NICs threshold to move from £5k to £6k. Some close to government say it’s unaffordable. As does Next boss Simon Wolfson who reckons the government finances are so bad they can’t do tax cuts without higher taxes elsewhere.
