US TikTok Users & Creators on App Deletion for The Guardian
TikTok users in the US appear to be deleting the app at higher rates after the announcement of a new deal securing its future in the country. The short-form video app, which is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, has faced years of uncertainty in the US amid concerns over data security and a possible ban. The new agreement creates a US-based entity with majority US ownership and follows a long legal and political battle. App analytics data suggests deletions have risen sharply as the deal has been accompanied by changes to terms and conditions, technical issues, and debate about privacy, censorship, and user experience.
We’d like to hear from people who use or have used TikTok regularly until recently. Have the ownership changes, updated terms and/or wider political debate affected how you feel about using TikTok? Have you deleted the app, or are you thinking about doing so, or have you decided to stick with TikTok – and why?
We’re also keen to hear from creators about whether recent changes or disruptions have affected how you use the platform.
