Young Black Women in Canada for ByBlacks Underemployment Feature

Hi friends, My works focuses a lot on the lived experiences of Black women at work. Our emotional labour, stalled advancement, frustration, and underemployment. I remember my parents telling me and my sister: Go to school and get your education so you can find a good job and stability. But sometimes, that isn’t enough. Young Black women in Canada are doing everything we were told would guarantee stability, but for many of us—especially younger women—stability is out of reach. Now, there’s national research coming out that support what we’ve been saying, the job market is tough… and it’s tougher when you’re a young Black woman. * Nearly 80% of respondents say they cannot manage the cost of living on their current salaries. * Almost three-quarters report working more than one job to stay afloat. * 41% identify race as a barrier to securing meaningful employment. I’m looking to interview young Black women in Canada (18–35) who are navigating underemployment, contract work, multiple jobs, or roles beneath their qualifications for an article I’m writing for ByBlacks.com. If you want to share your story, I’d love to talk.
