Confectionery is a stalwart category of both the supermarket and convenience sectors. Famously impervious to crisis, many of its boosters say troubled times actually boost sales as people seek an affordable treat. To find out whether this is still the case, I’ve been commissioned by European Supermarket Magazine to analyse how chocolate and sweet sales have fared over the last year in European retail, and where they are heading. I’m looking to answer the following questions: - How have GLP-1 medicines affected confectionery sales? - Are people taking a greater interest in health, and seeking out good nutrients while avoiding sugary snacks? - Which chocolate and sweets are increasing their sales, and which are on the downward slope? - How are suppliers continuing to adapt to financial pressures, including via shrinkflation? - What flavour or format trends are we seeing? The itinerary: Finland, Lithuania, Germany, Spain, Italy, Bulgaria, Japan, South Korea, Singapore.
