Cumberland Island Residents & Workers - Love Story Tourism Impact

My latest for National Geographic: The surging popularity of the FX show #LoveStory on Hulu has spurred a run on #JFKJr.-core men’s fashion, overwhelmed staff at Panna II, Tiny's, and #TheOdeon, and mobbed a residential block in Tribeca. But on #CumberlandIsland #NationalSeashore, questions from would-be travelers about coming to check out the site of the wedding have spiked, but tourism has stayed in check, according to the National Park Service — even through months of “Love Story” mania. 🌴 💒 🌴 Why? Speaking from personal experience, I can assure you that all that’s kept that mania from reaching Cumberland is the same thing that drew Kennedy and Bessette here in the first place: It is much, much, much harder to get to than the Odeon. And once you’re there, there is but one place to get a dirty martini. 🍸🦪 For this **assignment** from a very thoughtful editor at #NatGeo (and goodness does it make my heart sing when editors find *me* with a good idea instead of the other way around), I talked to the owners of The Greyfield Inn, the folks at Birds Georgia and Wild Cumberland, tour guides, van drivers, long time campers, and lifelong landlowners about Cumberland Island before and after the Kennedy's love story the first time, and its revival on TV this year. Have you ever lived or worked here? DM me, I'm working on another story about it and want to hear from you. https://lnkd.in/gfqFhZ8V
