Roma community liaison & fixer - village-life documentary - Hungary

Looking for help connecting with Roma communities in Hungary for a documentary I'm a filmmaker and journalist from the US. We make character driven travel documentaries in the style of early Vice meets Anthony Bourdain. We've done episodes in Peru, Japan, and most recently West Virginia and we're heading to Hungary on April 9th. One of the episodes we want to make is about Roma village life in Hungary. We're not interested in making another poverty tourism piece or showing up and pointing cameras at people's hardship. We want to find real human stories, sit with people, share a meal, understand what daily life actually looks like from the inside. The kind of documentary that makes someone watching from their couch in America feel like they genuinely met someone and came away with more understanding than they had before. We're aware that Roma communities have a long history of being misrepresented and exploited by outside filmmakers and we take that seriously. We don't want to just show up cold. We're looking for either someone from the community who would be willing to help us get access the right way, or a contact who has genuine existing relationships there. Free pre-Fringe promotion opportunity (YouTube interviews + show recommendations) Hi everyone! I run a travel YouTube channel and this year I’m putting together a mini Edinburgh Fringe series in the lead-up to August, highlighting shows I’m excited about and helping audiences discover interesting performers before the festival begins. The series will include things like: Short interviews with performers where you can pitch your show to potential audiences Videos on shows I’m most excited to see Guides to unique, unusual, or wild Fringe shows Recommendation videos like “Top 10 \[GENRE\] Fringe Shows to Check Out” If you’re performing at the 2026 Fringe and would like some free pre-promotion, feel free to comment with: Your show name A short pitch or description Whether you’d be happy doing a quick on-camera interview Whether you have promo images or footage I could use for b-roll (can be behind the scenes rehearsal footage) If I think it’s a good fit for the series, I’ll reach out via DM.
