Africans With Inspiring Stories - Projects & Innovations

I recently started a new role as Senior Journalist in charge of Social Media for BBC Africa. While I’ve been with the team since November 2023 as a freelancer, it feels good to be back as full-time staff, at least until October this year. Over the past nine years, I’ve worked as a senior journalist in social media/digital roles across different units of the BBC - starting as the pioneer manager in charge of BBC Yoruba social media, then moving to BBC Pidgin as Senior Journalist, Digital & Social, before relocating to the UK and freelancing for a while, also within social media. This role sits at the intersection of journalism, editing, storytelling, audience engagement, analytics, performance tracking, and collaboration across multiple teams. It also involves managing and supporting journalists, bringing together different perspectives, shaping content for digital audiences, and ensuring stories connect with the people we’re trying to reach. This new role feels really different from everything I’ve done before, but one thing has remained at the centre of it all: storytelling - something I love to my core. In this role, I’m working with some incredibly talented journalists, and I’m proud to be supporting and helping them grow into formidable social media managers and journalists over the next few months. So, have I been busier than ever? Heck yeah! Is it consuming? Absolutely! But I wouldn’t have it any other way 😁 plus I've got some great supports💯 That said, if you’ve got any interesting, inspiring, or innovative stories from Africa, or about Africans, that we should be paying attention to, feel free to drop me a line or two.
