Australian Parents - Child Failed Hearing Screening - Documentary
Looking to connect with Australian parents whose child didn't pass their hearing screening - for a documentary project
Hi everyone! I hope it's okay to post this here.
I'm part of a small documentary team from the University of Texas at Austin, currently in Sydney through a research grant. Our project explores Deaf education and hearing healthcare and how the systems around them (medical, educational, community) either supported or fell short for Deaf/HOH children across Texas and Sydney.
We're looking to speak with Australian parents who:
Had a child who didn't pass their hearing screening
Went through the process of exploring hearing interventions (whether that's hearing aids, cochlear implants, Auslan, speech therapy, or something else entirely)
Are open to sharing what that journey looked like.
We want to understand your experience and how Australia's healthcare and education systems showed up for your family, or didn't.
Filmed interviews can be done over Zoom or in person in Sydney, and we're happy to discuss any questions or concerns before committing to anything. Participation is completely voluntary, and we can talk through how your story would be used in the documentary.
If you're interested or just want to know more, feel free to comment below or send me a DM. Thank you so much for reading, we really appreciate you considering sharing your story with us.
