Case Studies in Global South Structural Design for Dezeen
I'm excited to share my latest opinion piece on Dezeen. Inspired by my favorite structure in the Philippines, I call for greater recognition of local designers in the Global South. These people realized structural and architectural marvels that rival our most celebrated prevents, but it is nearly impossible to learn anything about them outside of local archives and first hand accounts. This is not only a call to expand the canon, but also a suggestion that climate-conscious design has a lot to learn from the Global South.
Please reach out if you have any thoughts or similar stories to share. This is part of an ongoing project to document and explore lesser known precedents in creative structural design, and I am always looking for new sources of inspiration.
I'm forever grateful to The OpEd Project and The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans for their support and guidance on this piece.
