College Students Rethinking Majors - AI Impact On Major Choice
Rethinking major because of AI
Hi everyone, I’ve been talking to researchers who say something surprising: despite all the headlines about AI killing jobs, some data actually shows demand for entry-level workers hasn’t gone down, and may even be increasing. But at the same time, I keep hearing from students that things feel more uncertain than ever.
I’m a reporter working on a story for The Chronicle of Higher Education about how AI is affecting what college students choose to study and what careers they’re considering.
Some of the things I’m exploring:
Are you rethinking your major because of AI?
Have you avoided certain fields (like CS, law, business, etc.) because you think AI might replace those jobs?
Or are you moving toward AI-related fields because they feel safer?
Do you feel like entry-level jobs expect you to already know how to use AI tools?
I’m really interested in the decision-making process behind your major or career path.
If you’re open to chatting, feel free to comment or DM me. Happy to share more about the story, etc. Thanks so much 🙏
