Congolese & African Diaspora - What People Should Understand About DRC

🇨🇩 CONGO RISING | EPISODE 1 More Than the Story You’ve Been Told When the Democratic Republic of the Congo enters the global conversation, the narrative is often predictable: Conflict. Poverty. Political instability. Critical minerals. Those realities matter. But they are not the complete story of a nation of more than 100 million people—and they certainly are not the complete story of its people. There is another Congo worth understanding. A Congo of entrepreneurs, educators, engineers, artists, business leaders, innovators, faith leaders, athletes, and young people imagining a different future. A country whose music and culture have influenced generations across Africa and around the world. A country whose natural resources occupy an increasingly important place in conversations about technology, energy, and the global economy. And a country connected to a worldwide diaspora with tremendous intellectual, professional, financial, and social capital. As someone with a personal connection to Congo, I believe we need more conversations that acknowledge the country’s challenges without allowing those challenges to define its identity. That is why I am launching a new series: 🇨🇩 CONGO RISING I will explore the Democratic Republic of the Congo through five lenses: CULTURE — the traditions, music, food, creativity, and stories that shape identity. LEADERSHIP — lessons from Congolese leaders, past and present. INNOVATION — entrepreneurs, technology, education, and emerging ideas. DIASPORA — how Congolese professionals around the world are contributing knowledge, relationships, investment, and leadership. DEVELOPMENT — practical conversations about institutions, education, infrastructure, human capital, investment, and sustainable progress. This will not be an attempt to romanticize Congo or overlook its very real challenges. It is an effort to broaden the lens. Development conversations become very different when we stop asking only: “What is wrong with Congo?” and begin asking: “What is already working, who is building it, and how can we help it scale?” That is a conversation I believe is worth having. A nation. A people. A future. Welcome to Congo Rising.
