Working on a documentary + article about the global construction and housing crisis — need your insights 🎬🏗️ Hey all, I'm currently writing an article and in parallel developing a documentary on the state of the construction industry and the housing crisis — and I want to make sure it reflects the reality of people actually working in the sector, not just what politicians and economists say. The more I research, the clearer it is that this isn't one country's problem — it's a global pattern. A few things that keep coming up everywhere: \\Material costs\\ that never really came back down after Covid — concrete, steel, timber, insulation all sitting at elevated levels \\Labour shortages\\ that nobody has a clean answer for — wages climbing fast but still not enough hands on site \\Small builders being squeezed out\\ by financing barriers and procurement systems built for big developers \\First-time builders and self-builders\\ getting little to no support or guidance despite owning land they could actually use Governments setting ambitious housing targets that the industry simply doesn't have the workforce or capacity to hit I'd love to hear from anyone in the sector — from sole traders and small local builders all the way up to large contractors and developers: 🪵 \\How bad is it where you are?\\ Are costs stabilising or still climbing? 🪵 What's the biggest bottleneck you're seeing day to day — labour, materials, finance, planning? 🪵 Has anything actually \worked\ in your region to get more homes built faster? 🪵 What do you wish decision-makers understood that they clearly don't? 🪵 Would you be open to sharing your experience on camera for the documentary?
