Content Creators in Global South - Heat Solutions Pitches

Every time the mercury crosses 30C my social media feeds blow up with videos and posts about extreme heat: good, bad and silly. The worst of these spread panic or misinformation that could put people’s health at risk. But done well, social media enables individuals and communities to better share and understand the risks extreme heat poses, and ways they can adapt to it. With the majority of people around the world now getting their news from social media for the first time ever, how social media content creators cover extreme heat is critical in shaping how we confront the carbon emissions driving extreme heat, and adapt to a hotter world. I’m delighted to share two initiatives Dialogue Earth is doing this month to help creators be part of the solution, as part of The CATCH Heat Project at Boston University School of Public Health. 1️⃣ We want to partner with the best of these creators to produce better content about solutions to heat, and support them with the fact-checking and editorial strength of our newsroom. For the first time, we’re inviting content creators alongside journalists and photographers to pitch us photo and social-first stories on heat solutions from the Global South. Personally, I’m particularly interested in hearing from those whose focus isn’t just climate and environment, whose work might typically be in architecture, fashion, sport, health, music, art, food, travel. We’re offering USD1500 to cover all costs, and deadline for pitches is 31 July. Read the full details here: https://lnkd.in/ehME7CHD 2️⃣ And: we’re working to equip creators with the science and skills they need to talk about heat stories in a way that helps solve the crisis. On Tuesday 28 July, we will be hosting a webinar on how creators can squeeze heat science, risks, and solutions into their 60 second videos. We’ll be sharing more on that later, but here is a link to register your interest and availability for now: https://lnkd.in/eDbYBjBs Please help share these opportunities with anyone you think might be interested. And feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions.
