The hardest part of moving from doing to leading? Accepting that you don’t need to know everything.
I’ve spent years being the person who gets the job done.
In Formula 1 and composites, that mindset is valuable. You learn your craft, understand the details, solve problems and take responsibility for the finished part.
But building a business requires something very different.
At some point, you realise that if everything still depends on you knowing, doing and fixing everything, you’ve built yourself a job — not a business.
That’s something I’m still learning.
Running Luca Composites while building BizTalkWithAlexandru has forced me to think beyond the work in front of me.
Systems.
People.
Communication.
Delegation.
Strategy.
Brand.
Relationships.
And ultimately, trust.
Leadership isn’t about having all the answers.
It’s about creating an environment where the right people can find the answers, take ownership and move forward without waiting for you.
And perhaps the biggest shift is psychological:
Your value stops being measured by how much you can personally do, and starts being measured by what you can help others achieve.
I’m nowhere near the finished article. I’m still a contractor, still working with my hands, still learning business and still building.
But perhaps that’s exactly the point.
Leadership isn’t a destination you arrive at. It’s a responsibility you grow into.
I’d genuinely like to hear from people who have made that transition: what was the hardest thing you had to let go of when you moved from doing to leading?
Maybe there’s a future #BizTalkWithAlexandru conversation hiding in the answers. 🎙️🎥
