Early-Stage MedTech Sponsors in LATAM - Clinical Trial Operations

Colombia conducts very few Phase I clinical trials. Bill 191 admits as much. While Colombia debates clinical research reform in Congress, El Salvador is already executing. Global sponsors like Roche, Novo Nordisk, Avantec Vascular, and Ocumedex are already running active protocols there. Between 2020 and 2023, clinical trial activity in El Salvador grew 160 percent. Colombia’s proposed Bill 191 calls for mandatory investigator accreditation and streamlined agency pathways. Those are good proposals. But a bill in committee is not an operational framework, and early-stage MedTech sponsors cannot pause clinical development while legislators deliberate.
