The biggest red flag about the education department…
When we spend more money on NEETs than we spend on the entire Department for Education, I think it's fair to say that it's not fit for purpose.
I've been having a lot of conversations over the past few months around education, careers, and how they influence our wellbeing (lots of interesting stuff in the works...)
Yet, what I keep coming back to is that these issues, as with anything, overlap with a load of other issues (shock).
- Industry can't hire people with no experience, as they are inefficient.
- Education is pretty much the only point of contact for families to the state.
- AI has thrown a spanner into the mix (I reckon this is just an adjustment period).
Good news though - last week there was an interesting policy change which recognises this as the issue.
I wrote about it on my new Substack. Have a look in the comments and let me know what you think.
** There are many people who know a lot more about all of these fields. I'm merely adding my two cents. I have a long list of people I want to speak to in the #education #Neets #precareers space, but if you're also interested in this sort of stuff, drop me a message!
