For a long time, I stepped away from something I built.
I started Think In Electronic in 2012 because I couldn’t find a job and I knew I wanted to be in music.
At the time, I was going to events and hearing people judge DJs off one mainstream track, and it never made sense to me.
So I started writing and doing interviews.
Before that I was contributing to Nikhil Arora ‘s platform Trancehub, and that pushed me to build something of my own. It gave me confidence.
Think In Electronic grew from that. Around 40K monthly readers, all organic, mostly through Twitter. No Facebook. No Instagram. No big following.
We interviewed artists early — even The Chainsmokers in 2013 when they reached out. I worked with PRs, artist managers, artists and different teams.
But it made no money. And over time, the industry side of it started to put me off.
A lot of it felt like it came down to who you knew, not what you were actually putting out.
We were trying to build something based on content. And it never really felt like enough.
When I moved to China in 2016, I stopped.
Since then it’s just been sitting there — still getting traffic, but no real direction. Some months it hits 60K, most months around 40K.
I’ve spent the last 10 years teaching ESL, and I’ve struggled with where I fit or what I’m actually good at.
But looking back, the interviews were strong. Real conversations. Not surface-level. It’s Content that still holds up.
For me, music has always been there.
So, I’ve started rebuilding Think In Electronic again.
I’ve been writing again, and reaching out for interviews and media accreditation.
But, not getting much back so far, which has been frustrating. I expected that coming back after so long. The space has changed. It’s more about social media, influencers and numbers now.
Still doing it anyway.
If you’re working with artists or events and want proper coverage or interviews, I’m open to it.
