Engineers - Career Advice Crowdsourcing Book 3

Fall is “Back to School” time for many of us which brings with it the excitement of a new backpack, seeing old friends, and taking on new educational challenges. It’s a special time of year because both the teachers and the students are filled with hope and (potentially) endless possibilities. It’s a time when we get to wipe away the grades from past classes and start with a clean slate. It’s a time when we can try new strategies to succeed and build on the ones we have come to trust. But once we leave the safety of the educational bubble, there’s no more reset. We get new objectives at the start of each new year, but those old projects continue to follow us. We might want to learn something new, but we are forced to make it fit within our standard work structure. We know too much to see endless possibilities, and often only see the harsh reality of what has and could go wrong. There is no innate excitement and no clean slate…unless we create it for ourselves. So let’s do just that! As you get back into the groove of back to school season, try to find something new that’s just for you. Is there something you can learn, a new habit you can experiment with, an old friend you need to reconnect with, or should you simply just buy a new backpack? For me, this fall is about envisioning “what’s next” as I continue to help people think about work differently: 1. I am wrapping up the manuscript for Book 3 and I am looking to crowd source a little bit of content. I am hoping you will answer one or all of these questions (you can email or text me) so I can make sure I'm not leaving anything important unsaid. What's one thing you know now that you wish you had been told earlier in your career? What's something you do in the current job that you would never have imagined you'd be doing when you were in school? What's the best professional advice you've ever gotten? 2. I have created a space to connect engineering authors with each other and the community so they can highlight their work and build their network.
