I’m working on a story examining the challenges sex workers can face as mothers, particularly around: • Child custody disputes: How courts approach custody cases involving sex workers and whether their occupation influences decisions around the “best interests of the child.” • School admissions: The barriers children of sex workers may encounter when accessing education, including documentation, stigma and disclosure of a parent’s occupation. • Adoption and guardianship: What Indian adoption laws and procedures mean for sex workers who wish to adopt, as well as questions around eligibility, discrimination and guardianship.
