Fashion Designers & Artisans - Appreciation Vs Aesthetic Tourism
#journorequest
Wishing everyone a good week.
Working on the piece: Indian crafts are no longer just inspiration—they are becoming a global language of fashion (Prada’s Kohlapuri, Ralph Lauren’s Bandhej skirt). From Ajrakh to Chikankari and Zardozi, centuries-old techniques are now on international runways and retail floors. But somewhere between admiration and adaptation lies a more complicated question: when does appreciation become aesthetic tourism? And who gets to interpret India—those who live within its cultural rhythms, or those who translate it for the world?
Input Request: Fashion designers & brands (Indian/non-Indian incorporating India into your works), artists/artisans, cultural experts, brand experts, textile historians, and fashion curators.
Send interest & introduction via email only, and I’d send over the questions: [email redacted]
