Florida Special Educators & Administrators - IDEA Implementation

A federal special education leader resigns in the middle of a major administrative restructuring. My question is not simply, “Why did she leave?” It is:What happens to implementation next, and what does that mean for Florida? IDEA has not changed. Florida’s obligations have not changed. But the federal infrastructure responsible for monitoring, technical assistance, funding, and accountability is changing around them. That distinction matters. In my latest article, I look at what the ED-HHS restructuring could mean for Florida, including an important distinction in the state’s 2026 IDEA determinations: Florida currently meets requirements under Part B, while Part C remains in “needs assistance” status for two or more consecutive years.
