π« Who made your chocolate?
It sounds like a simple question, but the answer is anything but simple.
Behind every chocolate bar are chemists, food scientists, microbiologists, engineers, packaging specialists, agricultural scientists, data analysts, quality professionals, and many more.
That's what I've come to love about STEM.
As part of Beyond The Textbook, my new passion project, I'm starting a new series called The Science of Everyday Things, beginning with chocolate for World Chocolate Day.
My goal isn't just to explain the science, it's to show students that every product they use is the result of people with fascinating careers that many have never even heard of.
I'd love to speak with professionals working in food science and related fields to learn more about what you do, the challenges you solve, and the paths that led you there. Ultimately, I'd love to share those stories to help students discover careers they may never have considered.
If you work in food science, food engineering, packaging, quality assurance, microbiology, process engineering, flavour science, or another part of the food industry, I'd love to connect.
And if you know someone whose story deserves to be told, I'd be incredibly grateful if you could tag them below or introduce us.
After all, the best way to inspire the next generation is to show them the incredible people behind the products they use every day.
