It is my absolute pleasure to welcome Ronald Gula on the Noise2Signal podcast. This is also the last interview of the season.
Ron is a true OG in cybersecurity. I consider myself incredibly lucky to have worked under him very early in my career, because the principles I learned from watching him scale Tenable are relevant even today, and I use those timeless lessons every day while runningQuantro Security.
Someone once told me, "Culture eats strategy for breakfast" ;) Which is exactly why I started the interview there. Early on, I didn't quite understand why the Tenable founders invested so much time in their employees and building the culture of the company, but looking back, I have immense respect for what they did. One of the core pillars of that culture was: take care of the people, the people will take care of the products, and the products will take care of the business. I know this sounds cliche, but I experienced it in a very real way. It wasn’t the superficial platitudes you see so much of today.
We cover a lot of ground in this interview.
Here are some of the highlights:
- Early culture of Tenable
- Is vRon just the Larry David version of the real Ron? (he makes a cameo ;))
- Fundraising for AI startups.
- The five-slide pitch deck: What works, what doesn't.
- Dangers of AI Wrappers, and how to build actual moats.
- Why the CISO role is ripe for displacement in the age of AI.
- The future of AI-native cyber offense and defense.
I started Noise2Signal out of pure frustration after coming back from #RSAC26 and witnessing so much noise, making it incredibly difficult to find the actual signal from the noise. I'm so grateful to all my guests, and to all the listeners for all the love and support the show has received. In a way, the end of this season feels poetic, starting the interview series with Renaud, and closing it out with Ron.
Taking a break for a few weeks, but I'll be back with some exciting interviews in August. If you would like to come on the show and have an interesting story to share, drop me a line.
