GVMC Staff & Greenbrier County Mothers - L&D Closure Impact
In Greenbrier County this morning, ahead of Greenbrier Valley Medical Center’s last labor and delivery on Friday, April 24.
Women in Greenbrier County will soon drive an hour or more to deliver their babies. For years, the regulatory framework protecting West Virginia’s hospitals has been sold as a protection for patients. This closure is evidence of the gap between that promise and reality.
GVMC was profitable for twelve consecutive years before Vandalia acquired it. After this week, Greenbrier County joins a growing list of rural communities in West Virginia without local obstetric care.
Today I'm here to listen. If you work at the hospital, have delivered there, or want to share what this closure means for your community, I'd love to hear from you. 📩
