Haverford Alumni - Personal Stories & Feature Profiles

I’m excited to share with you that this summer I joined the staff of Haverford College as publication manager where I’ll be editing their excellent alumni publication, Haverford magazine, and working to expand alumni storytelling across all platforms. I’ve had the pleasure of working with the team on a contract basis for the year prior and am honored to be coming aboard full time. (An arboretum campus is, indeed, a lovely place to go on a regular basis.) I’ve already had the opportunity to work on stories about some really incredible alums, and I'm looking forward to more to come. Our latest issue just dropped, and cover story is on the wonderful Katrina Spade of Seattle green funeral home Recompose. Spade invented the process of human composting (a more meaningful and environmentally friendly alternative to burial and cremation), and Ben Seal goes inside her journey to re-define our relationship with death. Other stories: - Paul Wachter's history of bands who played Haverford just before hitting it big, including The Talking Heads, Vampire Weekend, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Pavement, to name a few. - Lini Kadaba's survey of Fords finding meaning and success in the second acts of their careers. -Mike Newall's profile of the team behind Little Yenta Books -Eils Lotozo's talk with Tamar Adler on her newest book, Feast On Your Life - David Silverberg's Q&A with Terence Carroll, the Ford who tends the lighthouse on the easternmost point of the U.S. mainland.
