I'm working on a piece for Inc. that I think might ruffle some feathers.
The working title: Are Resumes Enough Anymore?
The job market right now is brutal. Oracle just laid off 30K+ people. More waves are coming. And every job posting is getting hundreds, if not thousands, of applications from qualified candidates all submitting the same thing.
A two-page max document listing where they've been.
As someone who has hired many people over the years and is about to do so again for a couple of different roles, the first thing I do is check your LinkedIn. (This seems to be highly controversial every time I say it, but it's true.) And as a job seeker, I've had 3 different roles come directly from LinkedIn over the last decade. Not the job board, straight from DMs. Now as a LinkedIn strategist, I watch it happen for my clients the moment they start showing up consistently.
I'm not trying to sound cliche with yet another thing that is "dead," but I am genuinely curious about your thoughts: Are resumes becoming obsolete?
I want to hear from you: job seekers, hiring managers, recruiters, founders. Drop your thoughts below.
[Disclaimer: depending on what you leave in the comments, I may slide into your DMs for further comment for the piece.]
