Massachusetts College Students Out-of-State - Lose Therapist Access

Ever had to leave a therapist you love in MA? Hello all! I’m a reporter at The Boston Globe working on a story about the interstate counseling, social work, and psychologist compacts. These compacts allow mental health professionals to practice across multiple participating states without obtaining a separate license in each one. Massachusetts is not currently part of any of the three compacts. College students are one of the populations most impacted by these policies, as they frequently move home for summer / out of state for a job. I'm hoping to speak to some students in Mass. who live out of state / graduate and move for a job, etc. and are unable to continue seeing a therapist or counselor with whom they had already built a relationship. How did that affect you and your care? If you’d be willing to share your experience, please email me [email redacted]. Thank you!
