Midlife Women - Career Downsizing & Role Step-Backs

Let's talk career downsizing in midlife. There is a lot of discussion at the moment about women who are struggling with job hunting in midlife. I'm writing a piece about it as we speak. Women in midlife - and I have been one of these - are also quitting jobs, even though they might not have anything else to go to. The opposite side of the job search coin. But there's a middle ground I've not seen spoken about yet, which I want to explore for a potential feature pitch. Midlife career downsizing. Not quitting, not struggling to find work, but taking a step back in your role. Perhaps choosing to work fewer days or hours (with the pay change impact, too). Not going for a promotion. Choosing to say 'no' to a new project that you might have embraced a few years ago. Accepting a role with a title that is below one that's already on your CV. Taking something part time that isn't in your usual skills set because it feels like it'll be easier, or less stressful on top of your midlife and menopause feelings. I think we do this in staff/permanent roles and can do so in our freelance lives, too. Less pitching 'oomph', for example, or not chasing clients so much. Feeling like we don't belong at a networking event, or not networking at all when we might have in the past. Is this you?
