Anyone have experience with youth vendor programs at farmers markets? (Looking for possible interviews)
Hey everyone! I’m a student journalist at the University of Idaho working on a story about youth entrepreneurs at the Moscow Farmers Market and how programs like this are part of a bigger national trend.
At our market, kids and teens can run their own booths through a Youth Vendor Program. They sell things like handmade crafts, baked goods, and art. They also are in charge or handling their own pricing, customer interactions, and business decisions, which is really cool to see.
I’ve found that similar programs exist across the U.S. (some even offer mentorship, workshops, or free booth space), and I’m hoping to talk to people who have firsthand experience with this.
I’d love to hear from:
Youth vendors (past or present)
Parents of kids who have participated
Farmers market staff/organizers
Even shoppers who have thoughts on youth booths
Some things I’m curious about:
What did you (or your kid) learn from the experience?
What challenges came up?
Do programs like this actually help build confidence/business skills?
What makes a good youth vendor program?
If you’re open to answering a few questions (either in comments or via DM), I’d really appreciate it!
Thanks in advance :)
