Non-Native English Speakers - Work English Questions & Voice Notes
ROLLING CALLOUT: I am looking for non-native speakers of English to share #questions/ #doubts/ #anecdotes with me about your experience of using English as a #foreign #language. This is for inclusion in Business Spotlight Audio (ZEIT SPRACHEN), so the focus is on work-related situations and queries.
We also address #intercultural issues or questions related to entry into different professions. You must be willing to send me an #audio #voice note of your question in order to be featured. A professional mike is not required. Your questions will be answered by our editorial team. We have a combined background in language #education and #journalism.
Here are some examples of the kinds of questions that work well for us:
- At conferences, what are some good natural phrases to approach someone you don’t know in English?
- My British colleague isn’t very direct when she gives me feedback. How can I politely ask her to get to the point in English?
- When doing business in the US, I feel like the language I use is too formal in comparison to the language used by my US business partners. How can I sound more informal without sounding rude?
- I often translate from my language into English. Do you have any tips on how to stop doing this?
