Nonprofit Tech Leaders - Intentional AI Adoption In Social Sector
Season 2 of UnTangled is officially a wrap.
Seventeen episodes. Seventeen guests building, experimenting, and thinking hard about AI in the social sector. And one word I kept landing on by the end: intentional.
Not ethical (too paralyzing). Not careful (too passive). Intentional. You have a stance. Your AI decisions reflect your values, your community, your mission. You are doing this on purpose.
A few things I am taking away from this season:
✅ The purpose-built ecosystem for nonprofits is real and it is growing. Change Agent, Crescendo, Beacon, these are tools built by people who share our values and designed around our actual needs. Stop defaulting to big tech out of habit. Seek out the tools built by and for our sector.
✅ The gender gap in AI is a sector risk, not a workforce statistic. If the people doing the bulk of the work in this sector are not shaping how these tools evolve, we will spend the next decade cleaning up someone else's design decisions. We have been here before.
✅ The boring use cases are an amazing place to start. First drafts, meeting summaries, donor thank you letters. Time saved is not a luxury. It is sustainability.
✅ Non-coders are building real things. The distance between mission expertise and the ability to act on it is closing. That matters.
UnTangled is taking a summer break but I will be posting on some of the bigger threads from this season. And Season 3 kicks off after Labor Day.
If you know someone doing interesting work at the intersection of digital and AI in the social sector, I want to hear about them. DM me or drop me a line at [email redacted]. Always looking for great guests.
And if this season got you thinking about what intentional AI adoption could look like at your org, let's talk. https://lnkd.in/gEJzb5F4. That is what Firefly is here for.
