[30/F] Writing a story on growth of pen pals
Hello everyone,
I'm currently working on a story about the resurgence of snail mail, handwritten letters, postcards, pen-pal culture, and other forms of analogue correspondence among younger people.
The piece is for The Hindu, one of India's leading national newspapers, founded in 1878, and I'm interested in understanding what draws people to handwritten communication in an era dominated by instant messaging, social media, and email.
Over the past few years, there seems to have been renewed interest in letter writing. Some people have taken up pen-pal exchanges across countries, others send postcards while travelling, keep up handwritten correspondence with friends, or use letters as a way to slow down and connect more intentionally. For some, it's about nostalgia; for others, it's about mindfulness, creativity, community, or building meaningful relationships beyond the fast pace of digital communication.
I'd love to hear from:
People who actively write or receive letters
Pen pals (local or international)
Members of letter-writing or correspondence communities
People who collect postcards, stationery, stamps, or mail art
Anyone who has recently discovered or returned to handwritten communication
Organisers of communities, clubs, or projects centered around letter writing
