People Set Up in Arranged Marriages - Experiences & Mental Impact
Hello, if you’ve ever been 'set up' for an arranged marriage, I'd welcome your story for my upcoming piece for The Indian Express. Maybe it was awkward. Maybe unintentionally hilarious. Maybe it made you question the entire system.
I’m working on a light, honest piece exploring what it’s like to navigate arranged marriages today, be it through family networks or matrimonial apps. I’m looking to speak with people who are currently in the process (or have recently been through it).
Some of the things I’m exploring (please DM your WhatsApp number or comment that you are interested below):
-The funniest or most bizarre meeting experiences
-The subtle (or not-so-subtle) expectations around career, looks, salary, family roles
-Moments of hypocrisy you noticed along the way
-How today’s 'marriage market' feels different from your parents’ time
-And how all of this has impacted you emotionally or mentally
I’m also keen to speak with mental health professionals who can shed light on the psychological side of this process—decision fatigue, pressure, rejection, and identity.
If this resonates with you and you’re open to sharing your experience, please DM me or comment below that you are interested. Thank you!
