Phone Theft Victims in Nigeria - Bank Account Fraud & SIM Swap

I am working on a story into one of Nigeria's most underreported financial crimes. Every day, approximately 69,000 phones are stolen in Nigeria. For many victims, the theft is only the beginning. Within minutes, bank accounts are emptied, loans are taken out in their names, and SIM cards are swapped without their knowledge. If you or someone you know has experienced this, I want to hear from you. Specifically, I am looking for people who: — Had their phone stolen in a public place, market, bus, or at home — Discovered fraudulent transactions or a loan in their name shortly after — Dealt with a bank, fintech, or telco that failed to respond adequately This story will be published on @Technext (technext24.com), one of Africa's leading technology publications. Your identity can be fully protected if you prefer to speak anonymously. Reach me via DM or at [email redacted].
