Researchers & Journalists - German Far-Right Youth Networks Growth

Germany’s far-right landscape is much bigger than the AfD. And one part of it appears to have received comparatively little attention outside Germany. I’ve started investigating the changing networks around Junge Nationalisten (JN), Die Heimat, Elblandrevolte and a growing collection of locally branded youth groups. JN itself is not new. Its history stretches back to 1969. What interests me is what has happened around it in recent years. According to figures from the German federal government, JN membership increased from about 230 members in 2023 to 300 in 2024 and 400 in 2025. In July 2026, the federal government said newly established right-wing extremist youth groups had contributed substantially to that increase. It described demonstrations and intensive social-media promotion as recruitment mechanisms, with some members and supporters subsequently moving towards more established structures — particularly JN. Then there is Elblandrevolte. According to Saxony’s domestic intelligence service, a new JN “Stützpunkt” was established in the Dresden area in early 2024 under the name Elblandrevolte. In other words, Saxon authorities describe Elblandrevolte not simply as an outside group sympathetic to JN, but as a regional JN organizational structure. I’ve found comparatively little detailed reporting on these developments aimed at an English-speaking international audience. So I’d like to hear from people who know this subject. Journalists.
