St. Louis Hospitality Workers - BMW Championship Economic Impact

St. Louis doesn’t need everyone to love golf to benefit from golf. Because when a major event comes here, it’s not just fairways and birdies it’s a national and global spotlight on our region. It fills hotels, drives spending, and puts St. Louis in front of audiences far beyond Missouri. And in just a few weeks, the PGA Tour (the best golfers in the world) returns to St. Louis for the BMW Championship at Bellerive putting us in the global spotlight. That matters whether you’ve ever picked up a club or couldn’t care less about the sport. Here’s why. Big events like this can shape how people think about St. Louis, bring decision makers to town, and show what we look like when we’re at our best. And there are real, everyday ripple effects that hit a lot of people. If you work in or own a hotel, restaurant, bar, rideshare, taxi, retail shop, or anything hospitality related a week like this can mean fuller schedules, bigger tips, and more shifts. If you don’t work in hospitality, but you live here that out of town spending still moves through the local economy. If you care about St. Louis’ future jobs, growth, investment this is one of those rare moments where the region gets a chance to pitch itself to a huge audience in more than 200 countries, in more than 30 languages. And if you care about what the community gets back, there’s a major charitable side tied to these tournaments too, including scholarship money for caddies through the Evans Scholars Foundation, plus youth and veteran programs supported through Gateway PGA PGA REACH Gateway here in St. Louis. Even outside the private clubs, you’ve got projects like Normandie Reimagined in North St. Louis using golf as the vehicle for youth programming and community investment. I spent time talking with golfers on the range, to tournament organizers at Bellerive, to regional leaders about why St. Louis keeps landing events like this and what the region is trying to get out of it. If you see something in St. Louis that’s working revitalization, jobs, neighborhoods, youth programs send me a message. I want to hear about it. Honest question: do you think events like this actually help St. Louis long term or is it just a good week for hotels and TV cameras
