State Health Data Orgs - HHS Access To Medical Records
Today, KFF Health News published detailed information on how U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is pursuing access to Americans' medical records through little-known state organizations that collect patient information from hospitals and health systems around the country.
This story has been over a year in the making, when one of Kennedy's closest advisers first told me in December 2024 (yes, before even entering the office) that they wanted Americans' medical records to analyze them directly. It took months of digging, phone calls, source meetings -- then making more calls, again -- and enlisting the skilled help of Darius Tahir to get the reporting over the finish line.
I'm glad today that we are able to finally give the public insight into important conversations happening behind closed doors at HHS about Americans' medical records.
I'm not done reporting on this and have more in the works. So, if you have something to share, please don't hesitate to reach out. I can be reached at [email redacted] or on Signal @ AmandaSeitz.01.
