Stingray President Steve Jones - C-18 Distribution Sovereignty
I tried to share a New York Times article about bagels on Facebook.
Canada said no.
We talk endlessly in this country about Canadian content, Canadian voices, Canadian journalism. We spend almost no time talking about who controls the pipes those voices travel through, and on what terms.
That's the conversation we're not having. And until we do, screenshots like this one are where Canadian media policy lives.
I'm writing a longer piece on this for Screen Intelligence (my thought engine soon to be published) the distribution sovereignty argument, the accountability inversion, and what it actually means for public media in Canada.
But first I want to hear from Steve Jones, President of Stingray Radio, CAB board member, a fellow colleague and someone who has been navigating Canadian broadcast regulation longer than most.
Steve, sorry to call you out buddy! you've seen this system from every angle. Is C-18 a policy failure, a regulatory architecture failure, or something more fundamental?
Note my comment leading to Montreal bagels being superior to anything in the world... also GO HABS GO!
