Tax Attorneys & Constitutional Lawyers - IRS Dropped Exams For Trump

The IRS agreed to permanently drop tax examinations for President Trump, his sons, and the Trump Organization. Trump filed a $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS. He was simultaneously the plaintiff and the defendant. Newly appointed IRS CEO Frank Bisignano signed the settlement. Former IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel said he knows of no precedent for a deal like this. As accountants, this should bother us regardless of politics. The tax system only works if the rules apply equally. When an ordinary taxpayer faces standard examination rules, but the person controlling the agency gets a permanent pass, that's a problem. We discussed on a recent episode of The Accounting Podcast. Link in the first comment. πŸ‘‡οΈ Does the administration have the authority to enter into a settlement like this? I'd love to hear from any tax attorneys or constitutional lawyers.
