Toronto Pre-Con Buyers 2021-2022 - Appraisal Gaps at Closing

IJF Story] Seeking 2021/2022 Toronto Pre-Con Buyers Facing Appraisal Gaps Hi everyone, I am a journalist with the Investigative Journalism Foundation (IJF). We are currently working on a major investigation into the structural mechanics of the Greater Toronto Area’s pre-construction condo market. What we have: Our newsroom has analyzed pipeline data tracking upcoming project sales and the sheer volume of new units being pushed into the market. What we need: We want to connect the data to the reality on the ground. We are looking to speak with people who bought pre-construction units during the peak years of 2021 or 2022 and are now hitting a wall because bank appraisals are coming in significantly below the original purchase price as closing approaches. Much like the posted stories in this thread. Or it could be another year when purchased, but it shows an appraisal variance on closing. We want to look past the headlines and investigate how the system is impacting buyers, what lenders are doing, and the broader economic fallout of this closing crunch. If you are facing an appraisal gap on a 2021/2022 purchase and want to share your experience safely, please DM me or reach out directly: Email: [[email redacted] • • Our Work: Learn more about our non-profit investigative newsroom at theijf.org. Thank you!!
