My latest piece for Tether Magazine is now live: still caring: the hidden work behind the care home door There can be an assumption that once someone moves into residential care, their family’s caring role ends. But it often doesn’t end. It changes. In this piece, Karen Strong talks about what caring for her mum looks like now, from sorting clothes and managing practical things to continuing to advocate for her care. “There’s a perception that everything is done and then you walk away, skip along, go home and merrily eat your tea.” This is something I want to keep exploring in my work: the parts of unpaid care that often go unseen, particularly what happens when a loved one moves into residential care.
