Urban Working Women 25-33 In India - Loneliness & Hyper-Independence
Hi everyone, I’m working on a personal story for The Indian Express and I’m looking to speak with women in their mid-to-late 20s and early 30s (around 25–33) who are living away from home for work.
This piece explores the often unspoken side of independence for urban working women in India — the kind that looks strong on the outside but feels heavy at times. The loneliness that doesn’t always show (cue Heer Toh Badi Sad Hai 😅). The guilt of missing weddings, festivals, and family milestones. The exhaustion of being hyper-independent. And that strange, disorienting feeling when you go back home… and realise it doesn’t fully feel like home anymore.
If this resonates with you, I’d really value hearing your experience.
I’m also looking to connect with mental health professionals who can help unpack:
* The emotional impact of prolonged distance from family
* Why hyper-independence can become draining
* The idea of 'reverse culture shock' within one’s own home
* Healthy ways to cope, build support systems, and feel rooted again
If you’re open to sharing your story, or if you’re an expert who can contribute insights, please comment below or DM me.
