US Passenger Train Conductors - Children's Book Job Duties

Train conductors on passenger trains in the US (like Amtrak) Hi folks, I'm researching a children's book on what train conductors do. I've ridden Amtrak many times, and I've also done some googling, but I would love to hear from actual conductors about their jobs. I mean, I know they take tickets, enforce rules, make announcements, help passengers in need, open the doors and lower the steps when needed, etc., but I gather there is much more to the job than that. Any comments would be much appreciated. Thanks!
