US Residents 1999-2007 - Trend Spread 2000s Fashion Hair Politics

How would you say trend movement was in the 2000s? Hi! I'm writing a story and I'd like to hear from people who lived through the 2000s in the US. How did trends (fashion, hair, politics) move through the country? If any of you lived in small towns, how late were you to hop onto a trend/leave it behind? Were any states notoriously late? How did you learn about/get into new subcultures? I'm specifically looking at the 1999-2006/2007 years but any perspective helps. Thanks!
