Vanderbilt Students & Recent Grads - NYC Campus Impact
Want to talk to a journalist about Vanderbilt?
Hi, everyone!
I’m here both as a Vandy grad (class of ‘04) and as a journalist. I’m working on a story for New York magazine about Vanderbilt opening a satellite campus in NYC this fall and its relatively new reputation as a direct competitor to the Ivy League. Some of my college friends and I joke about how we don’t even know if we’d get into Vanderbilt today with such a crazy low acceptance rate!
One of the things I’m interested in is the tension between Vanderbilt’s identity as a Southern school and its desire to appeal to people from outside the South. I can easily speak to what it was like 20 years ago when I was there, but I assume it’s changed a lot since then and I’d love to hear from current students or recent grads about what it’s like now. I can see from university statistics that frats/sororities are not quite as ubiquitous as they were 20 years ago, but are they still a big deal? I also see potential students coming on here to ask about racism, etc. so clearly it’s something people are thinking about before they attend.
Have lots of other questions too…tuition costs…all of a sudden being good at football….there’s plenty to talk about.
If you’re a current student or recent grad (within the last 5 years or so), I’d love to talk to you. Happy to explain more about the story, too. You can DM me if you’re interested and we can go from there.
