Women 40+ Who Reinvented Their Lives - Midlife Reinvention Podcast
Nobody can keep you in a mold if you've decided to climb out of it.
Where I grew up, the path for women was set: education, or nursing, maybe something like that. I chose education, and I loved it. But that was not supposed to be the whole story.
Here’s three tips on how to start going about becoming who you actually want to be:
1: give yourself permission first: Nobody else is going to hand it to you. I went back to graduate school at 40-something, mid-divorce, because I decided to, not because anybody told me I was allowed.
2: start before you're ready: When I began my podcast at 60+, I didn't know a thing about recording or editing. I just tried anyway. Polish comes later through practice and experience. Waiting for "ready" is just another way of staying in the mold.
3: your age is not the deadline you think it is: The same drive you had at 20, you can still have at 70. You handle it differently, clearer about your intention. So just do it!
The mold isn't real. It's just other people's version of you that they are comfortable with. Once you decide you don't want to be there anymore, there's nothing left holding you in it.
I've always said: when I'm 95 or 100, I want to go out saying, "I'm so glad I did that." Not "I wish I would have."
Almost everything you want to achieve in life does not requires anybody's approval. It just requires you to start.
What mold have you been waiting for permission to climb out of?
